What it is known for
Where Taiwan is in the world’s top 10 on a measure anyone can check, the best rank first. Only the top is shown; a low rank is never stated.

A rank is among everything the source reports for that year, so it moves when the source adds or drops economies. Exports include goods passing through for re-export. Nothing here is a recommendation.

- Corporate tax return
- 31 May · each year
Income Tax Act Article 71: a taxpayer files the annual income tax return within the period from May 1 to May 31 of each year (for a December fiscal year end, the preceding year's return). The rule records 31 May.
Quote
A taxpayer shall, within the period from May 1 to May 31 of each year, fill out and file to the competent tax authority an annual income tax return
- Corporate tax, final payment
- 31 May · each year
Income Tax Act Article 71: the taxpayer computes the tax payable by deducting the provisional payment and withholding, and shall pay the remaining balance before filing the annual income tax return; the return window is May 1 to May 31, so the balance is payable by 31 May. The institution reads 'shall pay it to the public treasury' in the Chinese text; the English wording is 'pay the remaining balance'.
Quote
shall pay the remaining balance before filing the annual income tax return
- Corporate tax, instalments
- 30 September · each year
Income Tax Act Article 67: the provisional payment is made within the one-month period from September 1 to September 30 of each year, at one-half of the previous year's declared tax. The rule records the last day, 30 September. An enterprise may instead file a provisional return on the basis of its actual profit for the first six months, but the payment period is the same.
Quote
shall within the one-month period from September 1 to September 30 of each year, take one-half of the amount of tax payable as declared in its profit-seeking enterprise income tax return filed in the preceding year as the amount of the provisional payment of tax and pay it to the public treasury
- Personal income-tax return
- 31 May · each year
Income Tax Act Article 71: an individual files the annual income tax return declaring gross consolidated income within the period from May 1 to May 31 of each year. The rule records 31 May.
Quote

- Personal income tax, final payment
- 31 May · each year
Income Tax Act Article 71: the individual deducts the withholding tax and tax credit from the tax payable and shall pay the remaining balance before filing the annual income tax return; the return window is May 1 to May 31, so the balance is payable by 31 May. Where tax has been fully withheld the balance is commonly nil, but the same window applies.
Quote
shall pay the remaining balance before filing the annual income tax return
- Personal income tax, instalments
- Not required here
The Income Tax Act imposes no advance-payment or instalment regime on resident individuals; Chapter 4 Section 1 'Provisional Payment' places the obligation on profit-seeking enterprises only (Article 67), and individual income tax is collected by withholding at source under Articles 88 and 92 and settled on the annual return (Article 71). The obligation therefore does not exist.
Quote
Section 1 Provisional Payment Article 67 A profit-seeking enterprise, except one that conforms to Article 69, shall within the one-month period from September 1 to September 30 of each year
- VAT return
- Day 15 of the following month · every two months
Value-added and Non-value-added Business Tax Act Article 35: a business entity files a bimonthly tax return for the preceding two months' sales and tax payable, and pays the tax, prior to the fifteenth day of the following period. The standard period is bimonthly; a zero-rated exporter may apply to file monthly (also by the fifteenth of the following month), and small business entities assessed by the tax authority under Article 23 do not file. The rule records the standard case: the 15th of the month following the two-month period.
Quote
shall file a bimonthly tax return on a prescribed form for its sales amount and tax payable or overpaid of the preceding two months together with tax deduction and other appropriate documents with the competent tax authority prior to the fifteenth day of the following period
- Payroll withholding
- Day 10 of the following month · each month
Income Tax Act Article 92: the tax withholder makes payment to the national treasury of all tax withheld in the previous month by the tenth day of each month. The same article sets the annual withholding statement by the end of January and its issue to taxpayers by February 10; the monthly remittance is the recurring obligation recorded here.
Quote
The tax withholders of each kind of income stipulated in Article 88 shall make payment to the national treasury of all the taxes withheld in the previous month by the tenth day of each month
