- European Union: internal market and customs union
- Outside
Greenland is carved out of the Danish part of the Union customs territory (Reg. 952/2013 art. 4(1)). It is associated with the Union as an overseas country and territory under Part Four TFEU, and its fishery products have a separate import regime in Protocol 34. The EU texts retrieved are the 2013 original of Reg. 952/2013 and the 2016 TFEU, both pre-dating later amendments; the carve-out wording is unchanged in the consolidated text of 12 Dec 2022.

- Outside
Danish VAT law excludes Greenland from the Danish VAT area; the Danish tax authority (info.skat.dk) lists Greenland among areas outside the EU, and Greenland's own tax agency states it imposes no VAT.

VAT
The tax on what the company sells in Greenland, and when it must register, as the tax authority states it.
- VAT or sales tax
- None levied
Greenland does not charge VAT: the Tax Agency states that Greenland is one of the very few countries in the world that does not levy a VAT, and that residents who buy goods outside Greenland may therefore shop VAT-free and claim a VAT refund. The charge on goods entering Greenland is an import duty (indførselsafgift) with commodity-specific rates; the agency also administers motor tax, stamp duty, lottery and gaming machine duties, harbour and cruise passenger duties, an overnight stay duty and fisheries duties. A business therefore has no VAT registration, rate or return.

- VAT return
- Not levied here
Greenland levies no VAT or GST. The Tax Agency's business pages (https://aka.gl/en/erhverv) cover income tax, the employer register, duties (afgifter) and tax returns; no VAT return obligation is published.
- Payroll withholding
- 31 January · each month
The employer reports wages, benefits, pensions and taxes at the end of each month and then pays the tax to the Tax Agency. The page gives no day number, so the fixed_date value is a placeholder for 'last day of the month' and should be read as such; frequency is monthly.
Quote
All companies that have had employees must, at the end of each month, report wages, fringe benefits, pensions, and taxes to the Employer Register at Sulinal.nanoq.gl .
